Description: What to Expect
Tesla’s Supplier Engineer is responsible for critical component development, quality management, continuous improvement, and qualification activities at suppliers. The job requires effective communication at all levels both with internal and external teams, conducting failure analysis, leading statistical process control activities for critical components, limited travel to in-region suppliers, and on-the-spot critical decision making. The goal: developing suppliers by teaching best practices for manufacturing, quality, and engineering, delivering on time quantities of high-quality component parts into Tesla’s production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches, driving lean manufacturing principals to reduce waste and improve quality.
What You’ll Do
Diligent drive supplier accountability for part quality issues that are impacting Production by effectively managing and ensuring closure for supplier corrective actions. This includes starting and maintaining sorts & reworks, dispositioning MRB material and issuing chargebacks and validating supplier clean points
Lead cross-functional between Supplier Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, Suppliers & Designers for driving resolution to quality issues related to Tesla electronics commodity vendors
Engage with suppliers on developing short term containment actions and long-term corrective actions to quality issues, SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action Request) follow up and management from beginning to end
Responsible of Supplier Quality Performance at the factory, work onsite daily to support on data collection/analysis to identify failure trends and collaborate facilitating this data to Engineering, Design, Supplier Industrial Engineering, and other Failure Analysis teams
Based on performance and business needs, set priorities for suppliers; Develop positive relationships and work closely with Supply Chain Team to manage, implement, and track supplier/engineering, design changes, capacity studies and New Product Introductions and transfers; All before leading and/or supporting vehicle trials
Self-starter, seeking opportunities to improve processes, part quality and overall efficiency; Identifies trends and priorities by organizing and graphing/charting data; Applies project management and/or systems engineering tools to complete complex tasks
What You’ll Bring
Degree or relevant experience in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering
5+ years of component or assembly plant experience supporting Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or similar in Supplier Quality, Supplier Development, Process, Quality, or Manufacturing Engineering role Knowledge. Experience in a manufacturing organization is strongly preferred
Experience in Electronic Top Level Assembly (TLA) and PCBA manufacturing processes, High voltage systems & Power electronics is a plus
PPAP/APQP processes, display an advanced working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T), Lean Manufacturing, and how to apply these skills to improve quality, capacity, and reduce cost
Specific training and demonstrated success in applying, analyzing, and reviewing quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, 8D, etc.
Quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)
Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities to management & executive level, excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills. Well organized with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to define and execute a project using project management techniques
Ability, willingness to travel domestically, and internationally. Travel sometimes on short notice
Ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Excellent team building skills in dealing with suppliers, peers and other functional areas

Expected Compensation
$72,000 - $162,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
